We Indians celebrate Engineers’ Day on September 15 to pay tribute to Engineering legend Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Sir Visvesvaraya was one of the pioneers in Irrigation Engineering & has done huge work which was helpful a great deal in flood prevention, drainage & Irrigation (& overall Civil Engineering). He is called as 'Father of Modern Mysore'.He designed India's first automatic weir water floodgates for the Khadakvasla reservoir in 1903. At that time, it was a very helpful & groundbreaking work & helped a great deal in preventing floods & safety of the dam. Apart from this, he designed the flood prevention system for Hyderabad city, after which he achieved celebrity status. Here are some quotes by Sir M.Visvesvarya:-
