Kalki 2898 AD: A Visual Masterpiece Rooted in Mythology and Futurism

Kalki 2898 AD is based on Indian mythology, Kalki is the tenth and final avatar (incarnation) of the Hindu god Vishnu. According to the ancient texts, Vishnu takes on different forms to protect the world and restore order when it's threatened by evil.

According to Indian Mythology Kalki is prophesied to appear at the end of the Kali Yuga, which is the current age of darkness and corruption. "Kalki 2898 AD" starts with the aftermath of the Mahabharata war, where Lord Krishna curses Aswathama with immortality. He will come riding a white horse, wielding a shining sword. His mission is to destroy the wicked, end the age of chaos, and bring about a new era of righteousness and harmony. In simple terms, Kalki's goal is to rescue the world from evil and restore balance, leading humanity into a time of peace and prosperity.

Director Nag Ashwin creates a visually impressive world, taking the audience to the futuristic city of Kasi. Here, the evil Commander Manas (Saswata Chatterjee) rules, and the mysterious God King Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan) lives in a powerful fortress called the Complex. It's a dark world where fertile women are killed, and men are enslaved. The only hope is Bhairava (Prabhas) and his group of rebels from Shambhala. Their mission gains momentum when they rescue SUM80 (Deepika Padukone), who is destined to bring Kalki the awaited avatar.

"Kalki 2898 AD" is a visually stunning film, but its story, filled with many characters and subplots, can sometimes be distracting. According to a viewers, the first half feels slow, especially with repetitive scenes involving Prabhas. Comedy attempts with Brahmanandam and the love story with Disha Patani do not work well.

However, the film gains momentum in the second half, when Amitabh Bachchan's energetic and realistic performance as Ashwathama. Deepika Padukone shines in her role as a quiet but powerful character, while Prabhas’ character feels underused and slows the film at times. Shobhana provides strong support as Mariam, and Saswata Chatterjee’s Commander Manas is a bit exaggerated. Kamal Haasan gives a unique and chilling performance. Special appearances by Vijay Deverakonda, Mrunal Thakur, Dulquer Salmaan, S.S. Rajamouli, and Ram Gopal Varma are memorable.

The film's production design by Nitin Zihani Choudhary is outstanding, creating an immersive visual experience. Although, the background score effectively enhances key moments in the film.
