19-year-old dies by suicide, family says he was upset over Agnipath Scheme

A 19-year-old boy from Chirawa, Rajasthan named Ankit committed suicide due to depression. The family says that he was preparing for army recruitment and was seen stressed for a while after the Agnipath Scheme had been implemented. The 19-year-old reportedly committed suicide on Tuesday 21st of June. According to the sources, the 19-year-old committed suicide at his sister’s place.

There are continuous protests in Rajasthan against the implemented scheme. For almost a week the youth took to the street in different parts of the country and appealed to the central government to withdraw the implemented scheme.

Relatives say that Ankit had gone to his maternal grandmother’s house on Monday. She had gone to the school on Tuesday due to the program of yoga day. At around 8 in the morning, Ankit hung himself to the fan in the room. When his sister Poonam reached home after the information she fainted after seeing the body of her brother hanging from the fan. Ankit’s uncle claimed that he had been preparing for police and army recruitment. At first, the police recruitment was cancelled and then the Agnipath Scheme was implemented. This got Ankit into depression which led to suicide. The police handed the body to the relatives after the autopsy and started an investigation into the matter.

After the implementation of the Agnipath Scheme, two youths preparing for the army in Rajasthan have reportedly committed suicide.
