NEET Results 2024, Why is it Trending?
WHY NEET IS SO IMPORTANT?
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is one of the most important exams for aspiring medical students in India. This exam determines who gets to pursue undergraduate medical courses like MBBS and BDS in government and private institutions. With over a million candidates appearing every year, NEET is not just an exam but a crucial milestone in the careers of countless students.
Why is NEET 2024 Trending?
Recently, NEET 2024 has been trending for all the wrong reasons. NEET Exam was held on the 5th of May 2024. Reports have emerged that the question paper was leaked before the exam date, leading to widespread outrage and concern among students and their families. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the NEET, is now under fire, Facing strong criticism for what many consider a major lack of trust and security.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) stated they used a normalization formula to account for lost time during the exam, leading to some students getting scores of 718 or 719. The NEET-UG results have sparked controversy because:
- 67 students scored a perfect 720.
- Scores of 718 and 719 are impossible under the NEET marking scheme. Because every question’s correct answer gets 4 marks and incorrect gets -1, so getting 718 and 719 marks is not mathematically possible which raises a question on NTA.
- Results were released 10 days early, on June 4, the same day as the Lok Sabha poll results.
- Many NEET-UG 2024 toppers came from the same exam center Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan.
- According to a few of the students some Hindi medium students got the English medium question papers.
- Students are accusing that they have been cheated by the NTA and the system.
NTA’s answer to scandal:
The NTA responded that at a center in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, some students forcibly took away the question papers before the exams ended. A picture of this paper is now being linked to the alleged paper leak incident. The NTA stated that every question paper is accounted for and clarified that the images circulating on social media do not match the actual question paper. NTA mentioned the matter stating that they applied a normal formula to account for the time lost during the exam, resulting in some candidates receiving scores of 718 or 719.
Students Protests Against NTA
Students across the country are protesting against the NTA for the alleged paper leak.
They are expressing their grievances through various forms of protests, including rallies, sit-ins, and social media campaigns. The students are demanding a fair investigation into the matter and are calling for strict action against those responsible for the leak. They believe that such incidents not only undermine the credibility of the exam but also put their hard work and aspirations at risk. The protests reflect the frustration and anxiety among the student community, who feel that their future is being hampered by the alleged malpractices in the examination process.
