BIHAR: Patna to get its first automated parking lot

The city of Patna is considered the economic capital of the state. With a population of over 1.3 million people and being a fast-growing urban centre, Patna is facing problems when it comes to parking spaces for its growing number of cars and two-wheelers. The city corporation has now decided to tackle this problem with a fully automated parking lot system under which each car owner will get their own personal space to park their vehicle. The new system will use RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology which will help keep track of cars entering the car park, provide virtual entry for registered users, detect vacant slots automatically and charge users accordingly.

The whole area will be equipped with CCTV cameras for security reasons and they will also be monitored with an integrated control and command centre (ICCC) set up at the SSP office near Gandhi maidan. Parashar said the parking lots will have auto pay stations for cashless transactions. Or cables for charging E - vehicles. “The special cameras will record the entry of vehicles to exit, everything will be automated at the parking facilities . The ambitious project will provide citizens the much - needed respite from parking woes’’ he said.

In a city like Patna, with its chaotic parking culture and a limited scope for increasing the number of parking lots, having an automated parking system is probably one of the best solutions. However, as automated car parking is still not very popular in India, it is difficult to find a company that can provide such services. An automated car parking lot can be beneficial for both customers and the owners of the property where it will be installed. In addition the PMC will develop a mobile application for smart parking facilities. The app will provide the users information of vacant parking spaces. People can easily book the available spots through the app and make online payments.

The other parking lot spaces are at Vidyut Bhawan, B.N. College, Dak Bunglow crossing, S.K. Puri Park, Sahdeo Mahto Marg, from Carmel High School to Patna Womens College, Hartali more to Boring Canal Road.
