Gujarat woman Kshama Bindu set to marry herself – India’s first Sologamy

A 24-year-old woman from Vadodara, Gujarat is said to be the first woman in India to marry herself. The venue for her wedding and the date are set. The wedding is scheduled to be on the 11th of June where all the rituals and ceremony would be completed, including pheras and application of sindoor.  In addition to the rituals, the bride has written five vows to herself. After the wedding, she also had planned to visit Goa for a two-week honeymoon. Ms. works for a private firm, and also said that her parents have been supportive of her decision.

Ms. Bindu mentioned that her decision is described as an act of self-love and also stated, "I never wanted to get married. But I did want to become a bride. So, I decided to marry myself." She also said self-marriage is a "commitment to be there for yourself and unconditional love for oneself."

However, such stories have been reported frequently from all around the globe. A Brazilian model not only married herself but also divorced herself later after she found the love of her life. The model, after getting tired of relying on others, had ‘married herself’. A few months later, she divorced herself as she found someone special. On marrying herself, Cris Galera had stated that she was embracing herself and was not at all “disappointed”. But it appears that Cris has had enough after being a wife to herself for just 90 days.

Most people in different parts of the world still do believe that Sologamy is or could be a thing. What are your views on them?
